Louis Armstrong's kitchen and vacuum cleaner   2006-10-11

A very varied, cultural walk through Flushing, East Elmhurst, Elmhurst, Corona.

At the Louis Armstrong house, his (well, his wife's) 1960's style kitchen and vacuum cleaner:

Lemon Ice King of Corona ... this appears in the opening sequence of the 'King of Queens'.    The actual 'Lemon Ice King', Peter Benfaremo, who has operated this store since 1944, was outside being interviewed by journalists.

In the neighborhood just south of LaGuardia airport, several mansions are on Ditmars Blvd overlooking the Grand Central Parkway and the airport.    These houses USED to face a waterfront area, called North Beach, until the airport came about in the 1930's.
