West Coast cultural activities - Baseball theme in San Francisco and Seattle  2006-05-12

In the past 10 days I attended games in both San Francisco and Seattle.

In San Francsico, AT&T Park (formerly PacBel Park) is located in a gentrified area along the waterfront.   Perhaps you've seen televised games where people in kayaks past right field wait for home runs to go over the fence.    We even got a ball from Padres pitcher Chan Ho Park (one of the few Korean players in the US).    Also I was able to get a photo of Barry Bonds (#25) getting hit by a pitch.

In Seattle, just 2 days ago, I saw the Mariners play the Devil Rays.    Below is a shot of local hero Ichiro Suzuki (#51) at bat.   Also are some motion shots of Tampa pitcher Doug Waechter.    The retractable roof is very interestingly positioned in the closed position over railroad tracks which explains why you sometimes here train horns during games; and you can see an Amtrak train just beyond the roof.
