Parrots in Brooklyn and Bronx  2006-01-09

 

This was sort of a 'nature walk' on the Brooklyn College Campus, Midwood, Brooklyn, on Saturday.   Believe it not colonies of wild parrots (South American Monk Parrots) have established themselves in many places in Brooklyn, Bronx and other places in the NYC area, and tend to nest themselves on electrical apparatus where (presumably) either the generated heat and/or electromagnetic waves allow them to survive in the cold.    The complete story is on :

The bottom photo is a falcon (also a relative newcomer to NYC having reappeared in recent years) that just happen to land on one of the parrot nests while I was there.
