If you ever pass through the Pavonia Newport station on the PATH, you may notice on the columns in the station the 'E' logo. This was for the Erie Railroad terminal that was on the site of the current Newport Mall until about 1960. The second photo, of the terminal, is on the wall of the mall.
If you leave the mall and walk west down Pavonia Ave., you will find a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood of Hamilton Park, where you will see many historic homes, brownstones, and buildings. In the center of the neighborhood is the actual park named Hamilton Park. As an added treat, while on this walk, there was a parade for the season opening for the Jersey City Roberto Clemente Little League, and Vera Clemente, pictured below, was in the motorcade.
