This past weekend was the annual 'Open House New York' event, which you may have seen a brochure for in last week's Times. Various historic and architectural landmarks were open to the public this past weekend.
We visited 2 - the Williamsburg Savings Bank Building at 1 Hanson Place, right by the LIRR station. This I believe is the tallest building in the 4 boroughs outside of Manhattan and has been so since 1929. As a bit of trivia, at one time it was the highest 4 faced clock in the world.
Next was the Montauk Club, an elegant Victorian style building in Park Slope, starting out in 1888 as an 'upper crust men's and women's club. The club still exists and still occupies part of its original building, on 8th Ave. in Park Slope near Grand Army Plaza.
