An exhibition at the Whitney Museum about
Picasso (1881-1973) and his influence on American modern art in the 20th
century in the 'cubist' style. Interestly
enough he never visited the U.S.
The exhibit description: "the
fundamental role that Pablo Picasso played in the development of modern
American art, juxtaposing works by Picasso with paintings, sculpture, and
drawings created in response by his contemporaries and successors, including
Max Weber, Stuart Davis, Arshile Gorky, John Graham, Willem de Kooning, Jackson
Pollock, David Smith, Roy Lichtenstein, and Jasper Johns. A comprehensive
chronology documents for the first time the accessibility of Picasso's work in
the United States between 1911 and 1957 in exhibitions, collections, and
publications "
